This is located close to Shimoga (Shivamogga) in Karnatakaon the banks of the Tunga River. Its extraordinary camp provides a clear and uniqueview into the lives of elephants, not through fences but from safari vehicles.
The Morning Routine – Elephants, Mist and Magic
During our trip to Sakrebyle,we reached the place just as the first sunbeams touched the misty riverbanks. The weather was fresh, and the enthusiasm in the group was palpable. At 7:30 AM, the elephants began to arrive from the surrounding forests, led by their mahouts. To see them walk in a slow, royal elegance was like seeing a scene from a fairy tale.
Things to Do at Sakrebyle Elephant Camp
The camp was a domestic elephant care and training center. While some of them were rescued elephants, the others are admitted for health reasons or rehabilitation.

1. Interaction with Elephants
The most exciting experience during the visit was the opportunity to observe and be a part of the elephants' daily life. We were able to witness them during their bathin the Tunga River, when mahouts would scrub and play with them carefully. Guests could assist in splashing water (under guidance), and it's a smile that will linger on your face for days.

2. Elephant Photography
From cheerful calves rolling around in the mud to great tuskers strolling about in dignity, Sakrebyle is a photographer's dream. We took dozens of shots, but truly, none of them captured the wonder we felt standing beside a six-ton animal so relaxed and emotive.

3. Nature Walks around the Camp
The camp is lined with greenery and serene waters, just perfect for a quiet walk after your elephant cheering. The chirps of birds and the distant trumpet of an elephant creates an immersive experience.
