Caught up in a busy corporate life and striking a balance between work and family, I had always dreamed of visiting a place where time moves slower. But never imagined our friends trip to Gokarna would give us this and more, like the waves singing in a hushed tone of peaceand a sunset that simply felt home. Located along the Karnataka’s shoreline, this is referred to as Goa’s quieter sibling. However, after my recent visit, I declare there is so much more to it. Lazy beaches, exhilarating water activities, warm cafes, and heavenly temples make Gokarna a refreshing destination.
Things to Do in Gokarna
Here’s a quick load down of what you can do in this beautiful place.

1. Beach-hopping and Water Sports
Untouched beaches form the core of this place, each with a different aura. We began our day at Om Beach, which is named after resemblanceto the sacred Om symbol. Here, we attempted kayaking in the morning and took a trek to Paradise Beach, which is apearl of turquoise water and powdery sands, best for swimming and snorkelling, or just basking in the sun.

2. Golden Momentsin the Sunset Cruise
The sunset cruise was definitely the standout moments of our stay. While slowly drifting on the boat, we enjoyed snacks and drinks, looking at thechanging hues of orange and red in the sky. The view of the sun dipping into the sea was magical. No image can ever really do justice to that moment of calm, joy, and wonder.

3. Quiet Evenings by the Beach
After a day of adventure, we stayed at a cosy beachside homestay where the ocean was literally at our doorstep. That evening, for dinner,we ate at a seashore restaurant with our toes in the sand and fresh catch on the plate. This was elevated with a soothing music in the background and waves gently lulling us to relax, which is a rarity you don't find in busy cities.

4. Backwater Rides and Mahabaleshwar Temple
The following day, we explored the less crowded side of Gokarna by going on a backwater tour through estuaries lined with grand palm trees. We then visited the Mahabaleshwar Temple, a glorious Shiva temple, which added the element of spirituality to our trip. The temple beach was blissful, making it a perfect place for quiet reflection and leisurely strolls.
