Madikere - Scenic Mountain Station at Heart of Karnataka

Madikeri, erstwhile Mercara, is a scenic mountain station in Madikeri taluk of the heavenly state of Karnataka, India. Also, the hill station is the headquarters of the Kodagu (Coorg) district.

The city has a long history. If you read olden times, you will find that the city was influenced by Kadambas at the beginning of the Georgian calendar, especially in the 2nd century. Kadambas has their share of folklore and mythology. It is the legend that always attracts attention. The founder of the Empire, Trilochana Kadamba, was a three-eyed, four-armed god. In the second half of the century, the kingdom was ruled by Gangas, Cholas and Hoysalas, and later ruled by the Vijaynagar Empire. Thus, it culminates all the quintessence of the southern dynasty. The modern city of Madikere is worth a visit for its rich history, fables and fortresses.

Since this is a densely populated area, the city offers the rest of the metropolitan chaos. The climate is usually tropical. With an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, it is a popular mountain station for all the age group. And with the abundance of greeneries because of its prime location in the Western Ghats, you have plenty of things to do.

Talakaveri

A Holy place located in Bhaga mandala of Coorg district, Believed as the origin of river Kaveri. Kaveramma, Goddess of Kodavas, is worshipped in the temple here.

Nisargadhama

Also called the Island of Coorg surrounded by the river Kaveri, it has an open deer park, elephant ride, boating, children's park, and many more things to do. Nature lovers can stay in the cottages constructed between bamboo groves and teakwood trees. A perfect picnic destination beside the Kaveri River bank.

Dubare Elephant Camp

Destination on the Kaveri River bank, dedicated to Train Dussehra elephants and learn elephant history, ecology and biology. A Must visit Attraction of Madikeri is Raja Seat, tourists can enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset

view from the heights, Toy train of Raja seat is very popular for kids enjoyment , an amazing children park is constructed in the location.

Golden Temple

A Tibetan monastery located in bylakuppe of Madikeri ,gives spiritual ambiance of Buddhist religious life.

The beautiful paintings and artworks are observed in the walls of the temple. This spot is surrounded by beautiful Flower gardens, plantations and shopping streets around the place with lots of Tibetan designed items.

Madikeri fort

Mercara fort built in 17th century by the king of Coorg Muddu Raja, which holds beautiful architectural designs of the era, an Anglican church is built within the walls of fort which later converted in museum. The antique collections of the old century and items related to the fort are preserved here.

Abbey Falls

Abbey falls is one of the beautiful waterfalls of Karnataka located in Coorg district. It's around 5 Kms from Madikeri city. Tourists need to walk 2 Kms to reach the beautiful scenic falls from the parking area.
