Madikeri, erstwhile Mercara, is a scenic mountain station in Madikeri taluk of the heavenly state of Karnataka, India. Also, the hill station is the headquarters of the Kodagu (Coorg) district.

The city has a long history. If you read olden times, you will find that the city was influenced by Kadambas at the beginning of the Georgian calendar, especially in the 2nd century. Kadambas has its share of folklore and mythology. It is the legend that always attracts attention. The founder of the Empire, Trilochana Kadamba, was a three-eyed, four-armed god. In the second half of the century, the kingdom was ruled by Gangas, Cholas and Hoysalas, and later ruled by the Vijayanagar Empire. Thus, it culminates all the quintessence of the southern dynasty. The modern city of Madikeri is worth a visit for its rich history, fables and fortresses.
